Sell On Hand is inventory and checkout software for independent vendors at markets, fairs, parties, and pop-ups. This page documents the two ways a shopper consents to follow-up texts from a vendor through our marketing number: at checkout, and from their own shopper profile. Purchase receipts use a separate number and a separate opt-in. See SMS consent (receipts).
Where shoppers opt in
Consent is collected at checkout on a vendor's public page. It is not behind a login. A live example is sellonhand.com/demo: add any item to the cart, then look at the Stay in touch section in the checkout panel.
- Open a vendor checkout (example: sellonhand.com/demo).
- Add any item to the cart.
- Under Stay in touch, check the box to receive updates from that vendor.
- Checking the box reveals a mobile number field directly below it on the same form. The shopper types their own number there.
- The box is unchecked by default. Checking it is optional; a purchase can complete without it.
Only a shopper who opts in, with this box or the profile toggle below, for a number they typed in themselves is eligible for vendor follow-up texts through Sell On Hand. We do not text imported lists, typed-in contacts, or paper sign-up forms from this number.
Checkout opt-in form (replica)
This is the same control and wording shown at checkout, using the live example vendor (Sell On Hand Demo Shop). At checkout the label carries that vendor's own store name. The mobile number field sits on the same form as the SMS consent checkbox, and at checkout it appears once the box is checked.
The checkbox above is unchecked by default, matching live checkout. Shoppers must check it themselves before entering a number.
Second path: the shopper profile
A shopper who has a Sell On Hand account can manage vendor update texts from their own profile, under Updates from stores. Each vendor has its own toggle; there is no global switch.
- Sign in as a shopper and open your profile.
- Under Updates from stores, each vendor the shopper has bought from is listed with an email toggle and a text toggle.
- The text toggle is off unless the shopper already opted in. Turning it off takes effect immediately.
- Turning it on works only for a mobile number the shopper typed in themselves at that vendor's checkout. Numbers a vendor imported or typed in can never be switched on here.
The text toggle (replica, off) and its wording:
What the texts say
Individual messages from the vendor the shopper met: restocks, new items, event reminders, and a link back to that vendor's page. Every text starts with the vendor's name and “via Sell On Hand”, and ends with opt-out language; both are added automatically. Example: "Renee's Table via Sell On Hand: Hi Alex! New items just dropped. Shop here: sellonhand.com/renee Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help."
- Frequency: varies by vendor; typically a few messages per month when they have news. Not every day.
- Rates: Message and data rates may apply.
- Opt out: Reply STOP to cancel. Reply HELP for help.
- Support: support@sellonhand.com
- We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile numbers are not sold. See the Privacy Policy.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Full program terms: Terms of Service.
